ETASHA in “The Sip Of Life”

It’s a story of determination, of hope and courage as we talk about Rahil Surin today, a woman who has set an example by doing the extraordinary from her ordinary life. Hailing from Assam, this girl came to the national capital New Delhi four years back. She worked as a full-time domestic help, cooked, washed clothes, swept and did other odd jobs, but still carried a dream in her heart of doing big in life.

She enrolled in the vocational training course at ETASHA, a Delhi NGO earlier this year and today she sees her dreams coming true. She talked to The Sip of Life sharing her struggles, which have only made her emerge as not just a stronger person but also a more independent and confident woman who aims high now and is ready to accomplish her ambition-to become a manager in a good firm!
She smiles as we talk to her, and also carries a hope on her face. “I always wanted to become something in life even when I came from a humble background. With a dream in my heart I headed for Delhi in 2007 to support my family as I was the eldest of the six siblings. I wanted to clear my Plus two but had no money then and came with a cousin brother of mine.”
Rahil was supported by a Christian organisation which arranged her stay and food. She was 20 then and had just three months to enroll for Plus two but no money and had to work as a servant with two families at CR Park in Delhi.
She cleared her CBSE Board Plus two through Open School and is now completing her first year in Bachelor of Arts (BA). With ETASHA she underwent a vocational training and would be in July also joining a job in Gurgaon. She is now 24 and stays with her younger brother. She is not working as a maid anymore as she was before but is now aiming to become a manager with some company after she completes her graduation, but till then she would continue improving her skills and has also learnt English to face the corporate world in times to come.
She had nothing with her but a will to accomplish, she tells The Sip of Life with an innocent smile…and that’s what makes her The Sip of Life Inspiration today!
