The New Batch

Every time a new batch starts, its a flurry of activities in the office. The lesson plans are being sent, the class materials needed are being sent. The assessment sheets AND gold and silver coins which are the most coveted items in the list for the facilitators and the students respectively. Its funny how everyone is barking instructions at everyone else, and the batch co-ordinator is really worried whether the batch will start on time and will all the students turn up. In my experience, I have never seen Mini and Monica going so mad over some of us facilitators who are repeatedly asking whether everything is alright, and all the materials are in place. Checking and re-checking whether all the things are in order.

After all, we are the ones training the students to make a lasting first impression. We cant be the exceptions either, can we?

And it all begins, with new hope that this time the batch will be as much fun as the previous one. The new experience will begin, with so much more to share with the new batches, especially what we learnt from the previous ones. Its great to see the smile that the new trainees receive you with. Shy and sweet, which by the time the first month ends will turn cheeky and naughty. Something I am sure all facilitators look forward to. I for one always do. When they can Joke and try something new, not just what I have told them to. Its the turn around we all wait for. And they start noticing that in each other too.

But First day, is always exciting, both for the trainees and us, and for community mobilizers who have worked for months to get this new batch to come together. Talking to the parents, families, even the trainees to come and join this new thing to take a step forward. As easy as it sounds, the persuasion to join a course that promises to change lives has had its share of thugs; and our mobilisers have to work really hard to get through to a lot of families. THE NEW BATCH, The beginning of every thing that we aspire to do, sort of like the famous ‘Sound of Music’ Song

What will this day be like? I wonder.
What will my future be? I wonder.
It could be so exciting to be out in the world, to be free
My heart should be wildly rejoicing
Oh, what’s the matter with me?

I’ve always longed for adventure
To do the things I’ve never dared
And here I’m facing adventure
Then why am I so scared…

I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides which you see I have confidence in me

Strength doesn’t lie in numbers
Strength doesn’t lie in wealth
Strength lies in nights of peaceful slumbers
When you wake up — Wake Up!

It tells me all I trust I lead my heart to
All I trust becomes my own
I have confidence in confidence alone
(Oh help!)

I have confidence in confidence alone
Besides which you see I have confidence in me!
