ETASHA President Dr Meenakshi Nayar was presented with a cheque for Rs.25,00,000 from Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group and his wife Mrs Neerja Birla, Chairperson of Birla Group Education Projects, at a private ceremony in Mumbai on Saturday.
20 Indian NGOs were chosen to receive a donation of Rs. 25 lakh (US$43,000) as part of Mr and Mrs Birla’s silver wedding anniversary celebrations. ETASHA was selected due to the Birla’s support for quality initiatives providing skill development and employment opportunities to disadvantaged young people. The money will be used to provide vocational and employability skills training and placement and will make a significant impact on the career prospects and future development of young people and their families.
Dr Meenakshi Nayar said, “All of us in ETASHA love what we do, but the affirmation of our work from Mr and Mrs Birla has added a special zing to our passionate belief in helping underserved youth realise their potential. We have always striven to achieve the highest level of transparency in all that we do, and it is very rewarding indeed to be recognised for our efforts by people who have scrutinised our work and found us deserving of such a generous donation.”
The Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and DeafBlind, Paraplegic Foundation and Konkan Development Society were among the other NGOs to be honoured.
